Moving to Sacramento...

I'm maybe moving to Sacramento late this year, but I know nothing about the city.
Can anyone give me some idea of good neighborhoods for a fairly young (30), single person? I don't want something too loud/crazy, but I really dislike suburbia. Maybe something in-between those?

Also, I am a pretty serious artist, are there a lot of working artists and galleries nearby? How about available studio spaces? I want to be able to improve my art and display my works (for sale).
